Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• An NQF Level 2 qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
• Basic knowledge of cleaning and gardening equipment.

Groundsman Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining departmental premises, gardens, equipment and surrounding areas.

Maintain Premises and Surroundings

Duties will include:

• Cleaning the premises and surrounding areas.
• Emptying dirty bins.
• Keeping outdoor areas clean and presentable.

Maintain Gardens

Groundsmen will also be expected to:

• Water gardens.
• Prune and trim flowers, plants and trees.
• Mow grass.
• Remove weeds and garden refuse.
• Apply insecticides where required.
• Cultivate soil for planting trees and flowers.

Maintain Gardening Equipment and Tools

Successful applicants will be responsible for:

• Detecting and reporting malfunctioning gardening equipment.
• Reporting damaged tools.
• Carrying out minor repairs where appropriate.
• Cleaning machinery and equipment after use.
• Keeping gardening tools and materials in good condition.
• Requesting gardening materials when required.
